Kingdom Hearts Wii – A Series Saviour?
Posted on January 11, 2007 by Alex Donaldson I’m pretty tired of Kingdom Hearts. The first game in the series was undoubtedly a revelation in gaming. It certainly was to me. Disney… and Final Fantasy… in a real-time battle adventure with turn based elements? All made by Square? Wow. I mean, the first few screenshots looked a little ridiculous, even crappy, but the game certainly turned into a Disney/Final Fantasy fans' dream, and managed to sell millions worldwide.
The game then spawned two sequels; Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories was a Game Boy Advance game. For this reason alone it sold less copies than the other two games in the series – the Kingdom Hearts fanbase lies mostly with Sony’s Playstation 2, and they weren’t about to buy a Nintendo console for a single game. Despite its lacklustre sales, Chain of Memories was an interesting addition to the series, and was very fun to play. Most importantly, it was different. It featured a battle system that was a refreshing change from the ‘tap x to win’ system in the PS2 games.
Kingdom Hearts II was more of the same from the original game. For me, it added some very nice things, but not enough. Animation when fighting was certainly a massive step up from the original, and the new ‘Reaction Commands’ added an exciting and cinematic aspect to battles. There were also the all new “Drive Forms” – transformations for Sora, the main character, to give him different fighting styles.
In another sense, while Kingdom Hearts II looked more polished, it was a step back in many ways. While the fighting (the bulk of the gameplay) was simple in the first, the second game eliminated almost any need to use Magic, Summon Monsters or any advanced skills at all – most battle could be won simply by locking on and tapping X until the enemy’s health is depleted.
Similarly, the number of Disney worlds included in the game was raised, but the choice the Square team had was clearly depleted – the game has you revisit worlds from the first game to go through virtually the same plot as you did in the first game over again. Admittedly, this can’t be blamed on the development team – Disney is furiously protective of their Properties. They actually have a department who watches all films, cartoons, games and other Disney productions to ensure their characters aren’t defiled or portrayed in the wrong way in them. Incidentally, this is why there is not and will be no Kingdom Hearts movie – a test animation was made, and this team turned it down, unhappy to see Donald and Goofy doing anything violent. Why they are allowed to do such things in the game is beyond me.
Square’s team has pretty much been outright told they are not allowed to tell new stories within the Disney worlds in Kingdom Hearts. Sora & Co. must be inserted into a story that already exists (in a movie or cartoon) rather than an all new one. This is why some worlds have become rather tiresome in Kingdom Hearts II – Alladin’s world has you going through the same setup and eventually fighting the same boss as in the original game, for example. Square needs new worlds.
Spoiler Warning: Skip this Paragraph if you have not completed Kingdom Hearts II.
Another issue I have with the series is the plot. I sometimes wonder what the series wants to be – a happy, fun crossover between Disney and Final Fantasy or a dark, brooding story of good people turning evil and wars and magic. The biggest example I can give involves Kingdom Hearts III – how are the Disney worlds and characters supposed to fit in with this ‘Keyblade War’ made up of thousands of keyblade wielders. It was a ridiculous enough moment already when in Kingdom Hearts II an angry Mickey runs away to avenge Goofy, who he believes killed. It’s the production values of Final Fantasy shining through, and while it works well in that series, it does come off as a little silly in Kingdom Hearts which is, essentially, a Disney game.
Spoilers End.
The fact that it’s a Disney game is why this rumour carries so much clout – Disney have just set up a studio devoted to just the Wii and nothing else, and Disney and Nintendo are of course companies with a similar aim and target audience – Like Nintendo wants to create games to be played by the whole family, Disney wants to create children’s films that everybody can watch – the Lion King, for example, is loved by kids and adults alike for very different reasons, and is in my opinion the greatest animated movie of all time. The two companies are undoubtedly similar.
The rumour states that Disney has told Square that they want the next Kingdom Hearts game to be on the Wii – something which is perfectly possible considering the excellent Disney/Nintendo relationship. From there, it’s down to Square – if they want to make another KH – and frankly, it’s too successful not to – they will have to follow Disney’s lead.
Despite all the problems I’ve listed above, I do enjoy the series. There’s something satisfying about visiting those Disney worlds in the way you do and the trio of Donald, Goofy and Sora are a genuinely fun party to be running around the worlds with. No game is perfect, and I think what holds Kingdom Hearts up despite it’s flaws is that it’s truly charming, much like the Disney movies it copies.
The charm and wonder of being able to visit all your favourite Disney characters in one game helps people to overlook its very simple gameplay and at times a headache of a plot. There’s also the fan factor – huge fans of Final Fantasy will buy this game regardless, just to see Cloud and Sephiroth face off one last time. However, this greatest asset of the series is beginning to fail – they are running out of worlds to visit, and revisiting them can be tiresome and boring, as KHII proved. But how can being on Wii help this series?
Well, let’s stop for a second. Nintendo. What’s their greatest asset? Their properties. We all know they’re also not afraid to lend their properties out to other companies, with a Mario edition of Dance Dance Revolution, and Mario appearing in EA games for the Gamecube.
That’s right, I’m going there. How’s that for some interesting new worlds to visit? With the allegiance that Square has shown Nintendo recently, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Nintendo lend them some of their IP’s for a new Kingdom Hearts with Super Smash Bros levels of joy - Sora, Donald and Goofy can land in Hyrule, the Mushroom Kingdom, Planet Zebes or travel across the Lylat System with Fox McCloud.
Of course, I’m not saying the game should lose it’s Disney worlds – there’s several interesting Disney worlds left unvisited, and some movies not covered – the straight-to-video sequels to The Lion King and Peter Pan, for example, have remained untouched. Similarly, Jafar wasn’t always the villain in every episode of the Aladdin cartoon – so episodes of that could be taken and turned into exciting and different episodes in the Kingdom Hearts story.
Instantly, my interest in Kingdom Hearts III is raising at the mere thought of seeing Heartless invade Hyrule Castle Town – Some people will call it fanboyism or call it fanwank, but the entire Kingdom Hearts series is one big Disney/Final Fantasy fanwank – why not add Nintendo into the mix?
How would the controls work on the Wii? Personally, I imagine it controlling similar to Twilight Princess. Swinging the Wii remote around will be the equivalent of pressing X to attack. The D-Pad would be used to browse the Final Fantasy-style menu used to select Magic Attacks and so on, with the B-Trigger on the back of the Wii Remote used to activate whatever is highlighted. The Nunchuk Control stick controls Sora’s movement, while the Z-Button locks onto enemies. The A button on the front of the Wii Remote would be used to activate reaction commands. As you can see, the current controls fit on the Remote/Nunchuk perfectly with plenty of buttons to spare. Motion control could be used sparingly, as it was in Zelda – for example, in Twilight Princess Link’s spin attack is performed by shaking the Nunchuk. Special Keyblade moves could be activated with certain motions in either one of the controllers.
The one major advantage the PS3 has over the Wii is of course graphics. For me, for Kingdom Hearts, this isn’t all too much of a big deal. If this were Final Fantasy we’re talking about than hell, I’d be in favour of the PS3 or 360 – while I have no doubt the Wii can do epic, beautiful worlds, as demonstrated well by Twilight Princess which barely uses any of the system’s power. The Final Fantasy series is an established graphical powerhouse. In comparison, Kingdom Hearts requires little in the area of graphics – its cartoon worlds can be easily rendered with the Wii’s power. The only world from the games that would’ve benefited directly from being on a more powerful system is Pirates of the Caribbean.
There are those who'll say the problems I have with the series - particularly the gameplay ones - could be fixed on the PS3. I don't deny that - the game could easily be released on PS3 with a slightly more complex engine to reduce the button bashing, but the Wii control scheme just interests me far more.
Does the series really need saving? The fact remains that both Kingdom Hearts games have sold millions and the series is far from in a ditch in the most important area - sales. Despite that, the games aren't perfect, and I feel the best path for the series to evolve would be one on Nintendo's Wii, least of all because the younger audience of the Kingdom Hearts series cannot afford a console that is $500 in it's cheapest form. The gameplay of the series is very simple, and the series needs to evolve rapidly to remain interesting in it's third version.
Of course, this is all mere speculation based on a rumour that has no real source. While the rumour is a more believable one, thanks to Disney’s love of Nintendo and the Wii, the lack of a real source means there’s little I can truly say about it all. What I can say with certainty is that to me being on the Wii would give Kingdom Hearts a whole new lease of life. Here’s hoping.

after reading your responses, i had to get that off my chest. as a side note, im using the wii to type this.
or both!
i <33333 kingdom heart but can only play it when i go over 2 friends houses bcuz my WII was a gift and i cant afford a PS3 or 2 or watever.
please please make it 4 WII,or why not both? then everyone is happy! :]
It doesn't even work in my head. Can you imagine fighting alongside Link with Sora? Looks awkward to me.
KHIII isnt gonna be out for probobly 2 more years. its plenty of time to save.
Actually, disney can stick to tv and movies. all their independent games suck. Kingdom Hearts is all square, and disney was just thrown in the mix to make things a little more interesting. But think about the games, KH1 and 2, think about just how important those disney characters really are to the plot. Im sure if square wanted to they could have had Sora run into some original characters that were thought up just for kindom hearts and form a party with these new characters, instead of using donald and goofy. The worlds visited make for some fun content at first, but it gets old. If you saw the movie you know whats going to happen. And the fact that square made you revisit the worlds doesn't help. Really the only important disney character is Mickey Mouse, and thats only because he knows everything.
Kingdom Hearts jus got that much better when it became darker. When the new characters like the organization XIII members had more of an involvment than the disney characters. It took 4 play-throughs but i understand just about all there is to understand about the American version of KHII, and i enjoyed it, particularly the begenning and end, which were confusing, but more to the point of the story. somewhere along the line the plot jus got off-set by disney and pointlessly visiting worlds.
All im saying is, Kingdom Hearts does fine the way it is now, and would frankly, be better without so much disney. Why throw nintendo characters in to mess up the amazing story even more, and why put it on Wii when it started on Playstation and should continue there?
I hope one of you can give me a good reason...
Graphics may be dumbed down a little bit, but really graphics aren't everything, not to mention the Wii's controller would be incredible in the fights, if coded right from the developers.
Long live Kingdom hearts, Long live the Wii.
1: its not coming out on the wii
this is just a suggestion which is probably rejected by everyone. EVER
2: its called "Kingdom Hearts" not "Kingdom of Hearts"
tch
"square would sell it to nintendo!"
think about it
seriously
around 80% of Kingdom hearts is disney in the game
and Disney want it the main stories be on Sony (also meaning birth by sleep is more relevant than coded and 358/2)
so they would be removing almost the entire game (including donald, goofy and the undermentioned Jiminy Cricket)
Sure they could add nintendo worlds
but without the disney element
Kingdom hearts would just be a pile of shite tbh
im all for adding it to nintendo
but i wouldnt want nintendo worlds
only competitions with nintendo characters added in the tournaments at olympus collisseum
like: nintendo tourny
#1: Heartless Bowser
#2: shadow Mario (heartless version of baby bowsers mario in Sunshine)
#3: Marth
#4: Link
#5: Zelda (after 50% of health down becomes shiek)
#6: Yoshi & Luigi
#7: Mario
#8: Donkey Kong
#9: Wario & Waluigi
#10: Charizard, Venusaur and Blastoise (Elemtental weaknesses)
if this was allowed
Sora could be in a Super Smash Bros - which would pwn :)
Final smash = Trinity
special attacks: (KH description - SSB description)
up + spec. = Vortex (spins towards enemy in kh1 - similar to links spinning attack)
down + spec. = sonic strike (flies forward and strikes - similar to falcon kick)
over + spec. = Blitz raid (throws keyblade - similar to links boomarang)
tapping Attack really fast: ars arcanum (kh1 combo skill - similar to pressing 'A' in melee really fast to get link to continually stab)
how about YOU get YOUR facts straight.
YES there will be a KH3 CALLED Kingdom Hearts 3
BUT Birth by sleep and 358/2 days and coded are all side stories first.
but beyond that:
to those who say sora and link would make a great team:
no they would suck together.
Im a fan of both Nintendo and square
but link and sora would be terrible - link would be constantly using alternative weapons
Mario and sora would also suck
mario needs power ups to actually DO anything
the best storyline they could come up with for a nintendo world would be for a metroid prime world
Samus encounters new enemy
no data
over power her
suit becomes emobodied in darkness
Terra Ven and aqua need to help (come on nomura isnt going to use them just once)
a basic metroid story really :)
Well, the idea of putting Nintendo characters is something most people would ask and like but putting both Disney Chars and Nintendo chars is pretty messed up in my opinion... i was laughing at the idea of Disney characters in a RPG kinda game but it turned out to be awesome. I'd just hate for them to add Nintendo characters.
Thank you for attending this breif seminar
Your all not thinking of the REAL possibilities of KH3 being on the wii. yes - the addition of Nintendo worlds and then even adding characters from games like Metroid and No More Heroes into the tournaments - BUT a new super smash bros could have Terra, Aqua and Ven in it. that would be awesome. And the enemies combined would leave you awed. imagine fighting Bowser, Xeahnort (human form) and a Boss Heartless or Nobody OR one of the new enemies which will be in Birth by Sleep
but besides: Kingdom hearts 3 is a postponed project and they have not got a set storyline yet. Nomura decided to have 3 teams set up to make:
Birth By Sleep - PSP - Follows Terra, Ven and Aquas separate story lines (players have an option of choosing which story line to follow and can change at any point)
358/2 days - DS - Follows the Story of Roxas throughout the year Sora was in stasis between KH chain of memories and KH2 (multiplayer has the choice of playing as Roxas, Axel, Saix or Xigbar)
Coded - Mobile Phone - based around King Mickey in some way - has a virtual Sora in it though - :S the most confusing one so far :S - Puzzle based with infrequent action scenes.
But the DS version is the only KH coming out for Nintendo in the next 4 games
The only possibility is if there is a Kingdom Hearts Wii created specifically for the wii continuing on the story of Riku, Sora, Donald, Goofy and Kairi
but i assure you - KH3 will not come out on wii
Think about it, thousands of keyblade weilders? That practically sets the game up for a possible online mode. You create your own keyblade weilder, set out onto a server and battle it out Call of Duty style... but in realtime action combat.
I don't think this could be achievable on the Wii. But a Wii version could deffinately have some strong combat points using the Wiimote.
The wii is a good consle but the KH series should stick with Sony...
Now as for Sora going into Nintendo Based stories......i would almost have to say no, but with reason. Sora technically could go into Zelda, just because that is more of a "human" type play, however, going into story lines such as Kirby, or even Mario, may stretch it too far. I think that KH will get the okay from Disney to start using other stories such as Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, and other classics that they never really did touch. There is so much possible outcomes. I cant wait for it to come out!
Putting nintendo worlds in.....i dunno, i mean totally possible. it would be nice to branch out a bit...but KH has actually managed to, i think, make the disney worlds a little more serious/adult, so Zelda; Metroid; etc might work, but mario; kirby....i dunno, can kinda see it but dont know if i want to.
But i have faith in SqaureEnix, they always make a good game, so what everthey make or whereever it is ill play it and enjoy it.
spin off plot.
the very first kingdom hearts game i played (chai of memorys) i had to go to like 5 stores to find, but it was on nintendo so that doesn't help my argument. then my brother gave me his gamecube so if the first kingdom hearts was for that i woudn't even be complaining right now. but NOOOO!!! it was on ps2 and i had like no money but had to play it. so i sold everything videogame related (including guidebooks) and even then could only afford the system not the game
so i had to wait like 2 months to get enough money to buy it. i beat it and then waited for the second one to come out. 1 day (no lie 1 fricken day) before kh2 came out my ps2 broke! so i had to wait for my brother to leave (i sold the gc like he would give me another system) for basic training and borrow my friends copy of the game to play it!!! and i had no memory card so i coudn't save.
none of this would have happened if the games had been on nintendo, and now after christmas i can get a wii but there is no fricken way i can get a ps3 since there 500 dollars!!!!!!! so my vote goes for nintendo all the way
He was never talking about the side story he was talking about kingdom hearts 3 and even though there is a side story coming out that doesn't mean their wont be a kingdom hearts 3
KH3 with Nintendo characters; Are you F****** crazy?? >.> No way! Keep the Disney!
And I'm not gonna buy a Wii for just one game, you can count on that. I'd rather spend all my money on a PS3, which'll house most of my fav gametitles, than having to buy the WII because I'm a KH fan.
on topic....the side story my be for the psp/nintendo ds a handheld
the final in the series (kh3) will be on the ps3 its common sense people thye may continue the series beyond kh3 but its way to early to be making guesses
enough said.
and i think that they're making KHIII for ps2 and ps3 but the Wii is definitely a possibility
i mean, Link and Sora would kick ass together..
Ben
sure, both consoles have their downfalls, but why people focus on those is beyond me. they have their advantages too! try looking at those, and you'll get somewhere in this console conflict.
now, here is what I propose
KH3 comes out on both PS3 and PS2. the series concludes here in full glory for all to see. the fanbase is happy. problem solved
then, a year or so later, they remake the series into a spinoff series. something identical to the original, yet instead of FF7 and 8 characters, nintendo characters (to protect infringement laws, or something like that). that way, a new fanbase can be formed, and the original one will be fine too, because whether it is good or not, the wii version of the series will have virtually no link to the original series.
maybe they can do the same for xbox too. but either way, this is a matter that doesn't require loosing one's temper over. if you sat down and thought about it, you'd have a different arguement

Why would you guys want to end the series on a Wii? it would ruin the whole gameplay.. WOW you get to move a damn stick around.. who cares? PS3 controllers are motion sensored too. Other than that PS3 dominates all around. They already mentioned that KHIII wont be a kid game it'll be something more along the lines of a FF game. Lets face the facts.. Wii is a little kids consol. notice how Zelda is the only game that pwns on the system. Then take a look at PS3 every game they are making for PS3 is about action unless you got EA sport games. My thoughts to you guys who cant afford a PS3.. stick with the Wii cause you obviously dont have a job and that obviously shows your a child and when being a child that obviously shows you deserve to have a little child console like the Wii. I say keeping KHIII on PS3 would be the best idea for all around gameplay
Who ever said this needs to get thier facts straight, if you even took the time to play a Wii you might think "hey, this isn't as bad as i thought it was" it is only for people who have tried a Wii to judge on the quality, as for the console, who ever said it was a kids console? also you could say the same for the PS3 because neither systems want adult only games on thier consoles. Maybe you should look up the list of violent games, heres a few off of the top of my head, The Godfather the Blackhand Edition, Scarface the World is Yours, possibly ManHunt 2 if they make it so its not adult only, and FarCry Vengeance is pretty violent. Above all the Wii is fun you cant say you would rather stare at picture perfect graphics than have fun! Anyway Sony are always stealing Nintendos ideas, Nintend makes motin sensing controls and ohsuddenly out of nowhere PS3 and it six-axis MOTION control, and all Nintendo say is they dont care what Sony do because they are so used to them stealing thier ideas, whats next? a PSP2 with touch screen capability? the way Sony get their ideas there probably will be one eventually.
I agree with the article and everything Alex Donaldson said. There has been talk about KH on the WII, and i wouldn't be supprised if it happens. I did just try the controller buttions for with the WII Remote and Nunchuck and the control's that Alex sugested works perfectly!
It does kinda make sense if KH goes WII.
This might even lead up to other things like Final Fantisy on the WII and DS, KH charathers on Nintendo games like Sonic and Mario are going to be on "Mario and Sonic Olympic Games", Solid Snake being on "Super Smash Bros. Brawl" etc. It seems like everyone is on the bandwaggon with Nintendo, why not Square. It might prove to be useful for Square in the long run. People don't want beauty anymore, people want action, adventure, suprise's, and everything else a game should have.
And at the start of KH2, you play with Roxas 'till he finds Sora's sleeping pod. "My summer vacation is over..." He said and faded when Sora woke up. KH2 was kinda poor but exciting to play and I hope KH3 is a bigger, better and "Makes you sit on the edge" kind of game.
1 nintendo charicters in the game
Not that i want mario or lugi fighting with sora or roxas but i realy wanna see princess peach getting turned into a heartless and having the crap kiked out of the stupid bimbo!!!!
2 more girls kiking butt like final fantasy x2!!
and do i have to kill for equilty here? i mean roxas and sora do all the fighting, what about namine and kairi? why cant they get off there fat ass's for a minite to kick some heartless butt! and i mean how many orginisation members are female? NONE! the only evil woman is that witch-she donsent even fight- how lame is that!!!!!!!!!!!
3 roxas with no shirt
not that the next kh is going to be on a realy hot season - just wanna see roxas half naked ^^;
And thats from me: annie may

1. Most of the worlds in the first game SUCKED, i seriously only like Aladdin, Atlantica, HalloweenTown and the Coliseum was cool. There was so much unexplored potential with Neverland, I was really disappointed, they could have done so much more with that and actually gone to Neverland.
2. Don't bring Sora and Mario together. Just don't. Mario doesn't have anywhere near the plot complexity necessary for KH, you couldn't do enough tangible stuff with it.
But other than that, they better bring it out on the Wii, I seriously don't want to buy a PS3.
Have a nice day!

Terra
On a character based note, I think that I would like to see Link due to being mis-understood because he never talks, a villan but later he and Sora could form an alliance, I also think that a Chocobo would make a great summon, it could run around the enemy with Sora on it's back thus making it dizzy then when it falls over a reaction command could be for the Chocobo to stop on it's head or something. As for Samus Aran I think if they used Planet Zebes they could use the Dark Samus that appeared in Metroid Prime Echoes, and soon to appear in Metroid Prime Corruption and they could make her a heartless because of her dark nature. Finally I would like to see the Mushroom Kingdom as a world and Luigi could be a summon because he is too cowardly to go into full battle, also Professor E. Gadd could be just like the current games Merlin, Mario could team up with Sora and maybe eat a mushroom as a possible party drive command and he could grow big and could perform a limit move with Sora by hurling him at the enemy and when Sora hits it he could use follow up reaction commands. A definate final note I would like to see Donald and Yoshi fighting all the time, but they actually do like each other
think about it. if the zelda universe was set out like hollow bastion, would that mean Link takes Clouds place? (if they remove the FF7 characters from the game) and, if that were true, would Gannondorf be the optional boss instead of Sephiroth?
And, if both games are intertwined in the same world, would we see the unlikley alliance or rivalray of Gannondorf and Sephiroth?
either way, it sounds good. and my last comment about Link's voice had really taken effect, I like the idea of an awkward silence in conversations, but here's my next question
in Zelda worlds, there were no fully fledged voice actors, it was text with grunts, laughs, gasps and cheers. so, if a game was made for the wii with these implications in mind, who do you think, or who do you see fit, would be the voice actors of the Zelda characters?
1. MARIO!
2. JAK and DAXTER!!
3. LINK!!!
4. KIRBY!!!!
5. Fox
6. OKAMI!!!!
7. Rayman
8. Sonic
and these r just a few. they shoold also travel to som of these worlds along with other NEW worlds. Think, a blast of eco gives sora eco power, sora entering the dark realm and him and wolf Link fighting along sides, Kirby transforming into the heartless and being able to copy their powers or transforming into Sora and dey do a joined attack, and of course Mario and Sora fighting together. I also think you should be able to play with other characters other than just Sora and the title screen, you can choose certain people and da person you choose lets you do their different stories. The game should stop being such a button masher and they should giv more worlds like the lion king, where you change forms. ( P.S. I think they should keep the drive forms and the lion king world. I still dont no y sora couldnt use drives in the lion form. his fur should have changed color and he held the 2nd keyblade w/his tail.) I just hav 2 more thing to say. The wii's graphics ARE NOT BAD. they are much better than the ps2. WE ARE NOT PLAYING THE GRAPHICS!! i mean, i dont wanna play a game that has EXTEREMELY cheep graphics, but if they are like kirby, spyro 2, or cash 2 grahics, i dont care. the pple who say that the wii is too much work are either lazy loozers, or fat people who sit on the sofa all day and eat nothing but potato chips, ice cream, chicken wings, and pizza!DONE.
P.S. You SSSSSSSSUUUUUCCCCKK, Dominator
People say that Playstation 2 is KH fanbase, but GBA is the second best selling system ever made, and it had KH:CoM, which tells us that Square-Enix is not opposed to KH on NIntendo consoles.
besides, PS3 is going to have a little less exclusives anyway. the cell processor it uses is apparently very difficult to program games for. so a few small cevelopers are dropping out and the big ones aren't making as many exclusives (or so my sources tell me)
so yeah, Kingdom hearts series remade for nintendo, but the series continuing on the PS3 wouldn't be half bad. I may be a Ninty fan but I'm not biased. I played KHII on the PS2 and that was really good.
anyway, the only thing I see sitting on the fence for is Link. now, if you'll all recall, in all the games he's been in (excluding Zelda's adventure, due to it being a bad spin off) the kid in green has never had a single line of dialog (except maybe in OoT, where he said his name and name only) apart from the battle cries he has while swinging a sword.
think about it, if this were to happen, Link would only be a sidekick along side sora, making it hard to avoid the dialog unless Link is a mute during the game. This brings good and bad news
the good news is we finally find out what Link really sounds like, and how he says what he has to say
bad news, it takes away the mystery, and he might not seem like the hero of time to alot of people anymore, just another generic copy.
anyway, that's my rant done.
but wait, there's more!
I have read through these comments, and saying that the Wii's graphics are worse than the PS1's is, I'm afraid, false info
I have narrowed down the reason why people say it is crap and have come to this conclusion.
the majority of nintendo's games are cartoony, fantasy style games, which bare little, if not any, resemblence to real life. I know I'm stating the obvious, but let me continue. because they are cartoony, they aren't beautifully renderred. but that's the beauty of cartoons, they dont need to be!
making games cartoony can allow developers to focus on the game play, which results in great games.
and, if you look at a nice little game we all call "Red Steel" you may have to change your mind on the graphics. sure, a few things are a bit blocky, but you have properly renderred weapons, floors, walls, furniture, the whole package! And this aids its purpose as a first person shooter.
also, dudes, look at Twilight Princess for me, please? the graphics rock for all they're worth, and that isn't even the full capacity of the machine's graphics. seriously, the developers explained that shortly before the games launch
... ok, I'm done
I say BRING Kingdom Hearts to the Wii!!!
If you're a true fan of the game, you'd play it no matter what console it was on.
Anyways, I like your idea.
It's a lot like the one I had for KH2 except that before KH2 came out, I was like omg, they should put Link in KH!
But then everyone I said that idea to was like "No way! Square and Nintendo wouldn't work together."
I all I was thinking in my head was "well, why the hell not?"
Anyways, it makes me happy to see other people out there with the same ideas! Actually, I think yours it better XD
Look, controls can be eaisly rendered
Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be able to played on GC contoller, and there's the Virtual reality contoler, so there are three ways to really play KH, including remote and Nunchuck, on the Wii. (motion sensor still rocks though)
As for KH/Nintendo Worlds, it fits perfectlly!
Twilight Princess=Heartless along twilight beings, twilight zones where Sora becomes wolf or other creature and fights with Wolf Link and Midna, and in light fights normally wiht Donald and Goofy with Link as additional partty member
Mario: Well, naything's possible, though I think Mario with FLUDD would be interesting.
Metroid games: enough said
Kirby: It's KH, they'd have it in there if ther were Nintendo levels
Others: Sora could go through a portal in a Mario world that sends them back into the NES area and everyone is in 8-bit, yet 3D (cool)
Other then that, KH is THE perfect kind of series and Sotryline for a Will/DS system.
Grafics isn't everything (Wii will beat PS2 any day, but PS2 is still cool).
Pirates can be done, seen Twilight Princess?
It's perfect!
Granted I wouldn't agree with the idea that the PS1 had better graphics than the Wii ('cuse me, what where you smoking when you wrote that?)
Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 use a simplistic rendering system which would run perfectly fine on the PS2, Wii OR PS3, so it doesn't matter which system the next sequel is on, we all know there will be MANY sequels and lots of chances to jump consoles, I dare say we'll get a KH game for the DS eventually as well (although it might be like CoM which I personally couldn't stand)
I WOULD agree that Square-Enix and Disney need to branch out in terms of gameplay and worlds, KH1 was better in terms of mastering skills and controls in order to beat the game, take sephiroth for example, he was a bitch in the first and a total pushover in the second, partially thanks to the Reaction Commands, but essentially it's degenerated into cutscene after cutscene interspersed with world-roaming and button-mash battles.
Final Fantasy battles require alot of intelligence, or atleast strategy, rather than constant attacks. Bringing some of these commands to KH might help reduce button mashing play, this might mean KH3 would be a little slower...
As for worlds, well we've seen all the ideas for worlds haven't we? All those disney cartoons, pixar 3D films and Nintendo games. Heck, why not put a Gex or Crash Bandicoot world in there, Devil May Cry or Dragonball Z! (yes I'm being sarcastic, these have all been games on Sony consoles)
Without a doubt the Kingdom Hearts series needs a serious change to refresh it's players, more of the same will not do.
We can only hope that Square-Enix and Disney figure out something better than any of us have imagined.
Don't worry about KH3, the fact they're making it at all should be enough for us.
I stopped reading at "The wii can't even match up to the graphics of PSone". That one sentence just made you look like a complete ignoramous.
Though I'm not sure if there better then PS3 or Xbox 360, I would say the Graphics order would be like this.
Xbox 360, is the lowest Wii is in the middle and then PS3.
Though i'm not 100% sure about Xbox being the lowest, it may be the other way around with the Wii. But I don't really know nor care,
the only thing that is annoying is a bunch of people saying the Wii graphics are lower then PS2 whitch is obviously wrong.
...
You are obviously trying to cover your ass with more incoherent ramblings by saying it was all sarcasm... BS.
Whatever your age is, I suggest going back to school and enrolling in basic English writing classes. Then, maybe you can reply with correct grammar and better express it when you REALLY are being sarcastic.
Yes, yes, it's on the internet where one cannot hear the writer's vocal connotations but sarcasm is almost always obvious.
And Dominator's not an idiot.
Are you guys serious? PS2’s graphics are far superior than GC’s. The wii and PS2 are very similar in terms of graphics. Although I’m only saying this based on the first few games on the wii, but damn every game they have is sooo cartoon-like (note to “Dominator’s an idiot” - EXAGGERATING FOOL), you can’t really compare. 360 and PS3 are in a class of their own. One more thing, 90% (random percentage) of wii games are clearly for a younger audience, which doesn’t include me. I’m a KH fan sorely because of FF and the new characters.
Hey, remember the stupid power glove on the NES, we all know how that gimmick went. I see history repeating itself.
Bottom line: the wii will be an ultimate selling console in the first year, but a year from now it’ll start to get boring. Developers can’t make “fun” games forever, nor can they have stuff that hasn’t been done before using the remote. Then it’ll just be a regular console with graphics that can’t compare to the 360 or the PS3, gameplay is same for all three so lets not go there. Then here’s where the real war will start between the 360 and PS3, developers will be used to the two systems so they’ll know exactly what they’re doing and use more power each systems offers. And the wee, I mean wii, will be left out in the dust.
Love you, Dominator's an idiot.
Hunchback of Notre Dame
Pocahantas
The Jungle Book
Chronacles of Narnia
Snow White
ANY Pixar film
Sleeping Beauty
Treasure Planet
Sword in the Stone
The Rescuers
Robin Hood
Gargoyles
Power Rangers (say what you will, but it fits the gameplay better than any other property)
Kim Possible
Lilo & Stitch
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Add in a couple more revists of older worlds (Neverland was underrepresented in the 1st game, & the PotC sequels are just begging to get adapted) & a few original areas & that's about 2 games worth right there.
"Don't delude yourself into thinking they'll think twice about switching consoles."
My apologies.
Keep telling yourself that.
Square Enix follows the money. Dragon Quest IX is proof. Don't delude yourself into thinking they won't think twice about switching consoles. They certainly didn't when they took Final Fantasy away from Nintendo.
Also, if a game isn't high-def, you shouldn't care, the gameplay and playability is what matters, graphics are always second. If you can't play it, what's the point of looking pretty, almost like a cheerleader, stupid and good looking.
Does it really bother you when a game is in 480p? Heck I can't tell the difference between 480p and 720p and barely 1080i.
I'm not saying it's going to happen, but it could happen.
Playstation < Playstation 2 < Gamecube < Wii < PS3
In terms of graphics:
Playstation > Playstation 2 > Gamecube > Wii > PS3
cough dragon quest ix fucker cough
Mario is getting old, they should stop milking him. I don't even remember who fox is, you know why? Cause those games weren't as popular as the Disney movies. Leave them dead.
Kingdom hearts would be sweet. Believe it or not, games were fun way before you could see sweat pour off of bryant's forehead...
